Sherry Bowman lives in Charlotte, NC. She brings a wide array of work and life experience to her current season of life. She grew up in an Air Force family and was an Air Force wife, and after that, a corporate wife and enjoyed getting to live in different areas of the US. Her younger brother, born deaf, has given her a deep empathy for those who struggle with difficulties and those who love them.
Sherry and her husband, Bob, have one son who lives in Atlanta, GA. After Bob died suddenly in 2009, she redefine her life after retirement. She has enjoyed volunteering in Title 1 schools, she's active in her church's program for families with special needs children, and enjoys leading small faith based study groups for women in her home. She found new purpose and joy by becoming a "grandmother by choice" to help single moms and kids. Carpool, sports, Scouts, etc. became the norm, along with two beloved dogs she spoils day and night have kept her engaged, active and involved in her new life season as a widow.
Sherry started a Meetup group (and our partner), Widows for Friendship and Support, in 2014 in the Charlotte, NC area for widows to help find each other for social and emotional support. This year she started a new Meetup group for women over 50 to help break the isolation and loneliness that can come in the later seasons of life changes.
Sherry envisions that her work experiences, ranging from proofreading, administrative work, onsite production work, and the tourism industry, will be an asset to help in her vision of women empowering women.
